The start of the 2009/10 A-League season is just a couple of days to go. So the ad for the new season is now being aired.
Apparently market research showed that football fans in Australia see the global nature of the game as a major positive aspect of the game, so the FFA has tried to emphasise these links and draw out the connections as far as the A-League is concerned.
FFA Chief Commercial Officer, John O’Sullivan, stated that he hoped that the advertisement encourages fans to ‘think global, act local’ when it comes to being part of the football family.”
The brief to advertising agency Lowe Sydney was to create a campaign that clearly reflected the scale and international nature of football, whilst also highlighting the local version.
The ad does stretch the links however, as it features some Australian players currently in the National Team that do not play for the A-League.
However I quite like it. As someone from the Melbourne Victory forum has stated A-League fans will ‘get it’ – that is enjoy watching the world game and choose to support it at a local level. However it won’t convince the ‘football-snobs’.
Here it is:
But what the team from the Gruen Transfer would have said about it?
